We’ve been here a while
YaketyYak was originally a franchise based in California. The franchise had a very different look that was very much a product of its time. We opened the location here in Colleyville in 2008, but about two years later, the YaketyYak franchise filed for bankruptcy. Luckily, the owner of this location was able to secure the rights to stay in open as an independent small business while maintaining the same name customers were familiar with. Shortly after becoming independent, we renovated the store to have a more professional look, which has lasted since.

A look into the past
The first iPhone shook the scene in 2007, leaving the other major brands of the time with the choice to either join the touchscreen movement or to perfect their physical keyboards. Nokia, Blackberry, and many other companies shut down their phone production within the next 5 years, but Samsung, Motorola, and LG adapted and found their market share. iPhone remains by far the most popular here in the United States, though Samsung, Google, and Motorola remain strong competitors.
A few years ago, we started collecting some of the old phones we were going to recycle to make a sort of museum. By now, we have quite the assortment of nostalgic gadgets in our cabinets. It’s always fun hearing people say “OH! I used to have one just like that!”

Meet the team
Being a small business, there aren’t many people who work here. All three of us share duties, though you’ll only see two of us working in the store. This both means that you’re very likely to see a familiar face on repeat visits and that friends and family you recommend to come here will have a name to look for.

Our community loves us
We’re proud of the fact that a large portion of our customers are returning visitors. In an industry where there is a large amount of distrust, it’s reassuring to hear people say that they’ll always go to us first with any issues. Of course, any business likes to hear that, but since we’re a small business, there’s a level of personality to complements like that. In addition to word of mouth, we’re also repeat recipients of the titles “Neighborhood Fave” on Nextdoor and “People Love Us” on Yelp.
